What we believe at Living Word about God, Salvation, and the Church
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
There is one God, the Creator of all things, who is infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on a cross as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and is now at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
The present, supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. During this age, He indwells, guides, instructs and empowers the believer for godly living and service. Every believer ought to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
The Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. It was penned by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, we find the revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for the Christian life.
The Church is not a building, but rather a people. The global Church is the body of Christ on planet earth – the people that God moves through to accomplish His will – the people Jesus spoke about that would do greater things than He. We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together.
Man was created in the image of God, but chose to sin and is therefore lost. Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only grounds for justification and salvation.
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment a person receives Jesus Christ into his or her life by faith.
There will be a bodily resurrection, of the dead of the believers to everlasting joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
Water baptism is by total immersion in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and is an outward expression of an inward change. One being baptized must knowingly have made the decision to follow Christ and desire to express that their old self has passed away and they have new life in Christ.
